The College has brought us an extraordinary school year full of fruitful events. This article captures some of the key moments that will resonate with Paulines, reflecting a year of memorable experiences, all imbued with the College spirit.
Basketball
Football
Many of you have been participants or cheering spectators in our sports inter-class competitions, whether basketball or football. In the basketball finals, while the classes were fighting neck to neck, the song “You are my sunshine” rang out, a song associated with LeBron James in meme culture. In the end, 5F defied all odds and won the basketball trophy. In the inter-class football (Stanton Cup), it was 6E & 2B who won the championships.
Away from the sporting arena, there were also various academic-oriented inter-class competitions, including debates, Chinese Culture trivia quiz, and mental arithmetic contests, hosted by different school clubs and teams. In the English inter-class debates, 2F and 3A fought through heated debates to emerge victorious. The Chinese inter-class debate competition is still ongoing at the time of writing. The Semi-finals (2A vs 1B (Team 2); 2C vs “Three Swordsmen”) are scheduled for the 27th and 28th of June. For the Chinese Culture trivia quiz, the champion - 3B, displayed tremendous depth and breadth of Chinese history and culture knowledge.
Debates
SA Events
The SA also held Fervent, a 2-week event with a series of entertaining activities like the inter-class tug-of-war, dodgeball, and Trivia Arena. The inter-class tug-of-war exemplified the power of teamwork, as demonstrated by the winning classes, 2F and 4E. The dodgeball was a fun show as 2E and 5B dodged the obstacles on their way to the championship. The Trivia Arena, won by 2B and 4E, provided a stage for classes to showcase their extensive knowledge of fun facts.
Higher form students enjoyed the annual Christmas Ball immensely. The Ball featured performances by singer Kaho Hung and DSE valedictorian Icy Ku, and the SA executive committee members danced and performed on stage. It was an excellent experience for Paulines to cement their bonds and to forge friendships with girls from other schools.

CHRISTMAS BALL 2024

The event kicked off at 7pm, with the masters of ceremony greeting the participants, followed by the couple from the promotional video dancing on the stage in the hall as the curtains parted. After their dance concluded, the masters of ceremony invited the participants to start dancing in the front of the stage. Several couples gradually went in front of the stage and started their elegant dance, but none of them were dancing in the very center of the hall. On the other hand, the majority of boys remained wandering around the hall or staying with their friends on both sides of the hall in the beginning, possibly due to the fact that it’s their first time participating in such a festive event with that many girls present. Whatever their reasoning was, our boys eventually gained the confidence to purchase a rose from the rose booth, and invited girls to engage in slow dancing after proper greetings and self-introductions.
The stellar performances were followed by a period of slow dancing before the dance crew, Hong Kong Joint School Dance Association, and disk jockey, DJ Sum, went on stage and heightened the ambience with their spectacular moves and music. The executive committee members of the Students’ Association also joined them on stage and danced along. The music was so deafening that while the participants were jumping along the beat, two lights above the balcony had their lids loosened due to the intense vibrations underneath. Many participants were distracted from the performance while some teachers and committee members surrounded the area beneath the dangling lids with chairs and cautioned participants to stay away from them while the technician attempted to safely remove them. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the participants continued to indulge in the performances on stage.

This just in. Boys from St. Paul’s and girls from secondary schools across Hong Kong had been gathering in the St. Paul’s College School Hall for the annual Christmas Ball, organised by the Students’ Association, a few hours back. The theme of this year’s Christmas Ball was Quaero, which was Latin for ‘to seek and look for’. The night provided our boys with a precious opportunity to meet new female friends from other secondary schools, enjoy an unforgettable night with their date, or simply indulge in the festive Christmas atmosphere.

About half an hour into the event, the guest solo singer, Ms Icy Ku, appeared on the stage, and proceeded to perform two famed Cantonese romantic songs while the participants gathered in front of the stage. Participants were mesmerized by her vocal performance, and gave her a round of applause. Not long after, the special guest, Mr Kaho Hung, also went on stage, which grabbed the attention of almost everyone in the hall. Kaho sang two of his top romantic hits while numerous participants in the very front of the stage struggled to give him roses and get his signature. After his performance, the audience cheered for an encore, and some left the Christmas Ball shortly after. Nevertheless, the performances of the two eminent singers hyped up the atmosphere of the event.
The remarkable event came to a close at 10 pm, after 3 hours of romantic engagements, sensational performances, and formations of new friendships. As a first-time participant of the magnificent event, I was amazed by the scale and success of the event, which I had been looking forward to since I watched my seniors partake in the Christmas Ball back in 2019. The invaluable experience definitely forged countless unforgettable memories and relationships among the plentiful participants, who were generally satisfied with the annual extravaganza. Great thanks goes to the Students’ Association for organizing and facilitating this astounding event, and creating such a wonderful and remarkable night of romance and festivity.
