Mr. Lam Lik Hin

Mr. Lam is the College’s new Music Director. He has devoted himself to nurturing talented musicians and to teaching students how to understand and appreciate music. As a Pauline himself (Class of 2003), when asked how he felt about returning to his alma mater, he replied “I didn’t feel I had ever left St. Paul’s”.
Mr. Lam believes that art is a study with a wide diversity, which is related to literacy as well. He mentioned his hobby of reading traditional Chinese poems daily. The poetry used to be lyrics of songs, and this helps him dive deeper into the world of music. Mr. Lam thinks that there isn’t a solid distinction between Eastern and Western music, as he believes what differentiates music is its quality, not where it was composed. Indeed, Mr Lam cites recent examples of Western composers using Chinese poems as lyrics as examples of “the magic between East and West meeting together”.
“Practise more” is what Mr. Lam wants to tell anyone who wants to learn a new musical instrument. He encourages everyone to learn to play music as it’s an opportunity to understand more about collaborative work, which is as integral to daily life as it is an absorbing musical experience.
Mr. Koo Paul Siu Hang
St. Paul's College warmly welcomes Mr. Koo, an accomplished music teacher, to our Music Department. With a Master's degree in music education, and extensive experience, Mr. Koo hopes to bring renewed inspiration and creativity to SPC students. His own musical journey began at the age of five, learning to play the piano before embracing the violin at six. He honed his skills and deepened his understanding of music during his studies first at an international school, and later at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
As a part of the SPC community, Mr. Koo is determined to share his passion, introducing students to the beauty and power of music, transcending the boundaries of student-teacher relationships. He values SPC's music culture and support, aiming to instil a love for music in his students, helping them discover their artistic side and find solace in melodies. Mr. Koo fosters an environment of student involvement, where ideas are freely expressed and learning is collaborative. When he’s not teaching, he enjoys playing the violin and the piano, composing, and playing sports.
Mr. Koo encourages students to utilise their vocal skills, to participate actively in musical events, and to apply their knowledge.
