SPCSA Annual Christmas Ball 2023 - Quaero
Students had been eagerly awaiting the annual Christmas Ball, imagining a hall adorned with shimmering lights, creating a romantic and enchanting atmosphere. Inside the hall, some may have hoped to find that special someone whose presence would leave a lasting impact on their lives. This year’s theme, “Quaero”, a Latin word meaning “I seek”, aimed to facilitate the discovery of unique connections among the students on this special occasion. They were also encouraged to fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere while enjoying various performances with their partners.
Creating the right atmosphere is crucial for a successful Christmas ball, so our dedicated helpers spent tireless days decorating the hall with ornaments, even risking their safety to hang overhead lights that nearly reached the upper floor. The main entrance, reception desk, and balcony were transformed to align with the theme. The production team set up the final audio & sound facilities, ensuring that everything was in place for the grand opening.
Within an hour, hundreds of boys and girls flocked into the school hall, each dressed in their finest attire, radiating a charming and dazzling aura that filled the venue. The Ball began with our lead dancers taking the spotlight on the stage, followed by groups of couples dancing under their lead. As the night progressed, the boys embraced the Christmas Ball spirit and gained the confidence to pick up roses and invite their partners to dance. During a long session of social dancing, participants could replenish themselves at the refreshment booth, to prevent exhaustion from dampening this magical night.
Everyone gathered around the stage for the highly anticipated performances. Icy Ku captivated the entire crowd with her angelic vocals, receiving rounds of applause for her rendition of two Cantonese love songs. Kaho Hung took the stage shortly after, to thunderous screams and waves of excitement. He entertained the crowd, took selfies with fans, and accepted roses from them.
After a brief period of slow dancing, the crowd’s excitement soared even higher with the exhilarating performances by the Hong Kong Joint School Dance Association and our Executive Committee members. The crowd was taken by surprise when our S. A. Members performed two Korean Pop dances, “Queencard” and “Fighting”. The final extravagant performance of the night was the hyper dance session, where our Executive members, HKJSDA, and the DJ collaborated to hype up the crowd even further. Participants couldn't resist jumping to the beat, raising their arms high in the air, and screaming with excitement. It was a sight to behold!
Participants seized the final moments of the night with their partners or brothers, capturing memories in the fairytale-like hall. As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and so did the Christmas Ball, at around 10:00 p.m. To keep the cold at bay, hand warmer packets were distributed, and with heartfelt smiles on everyone's faces, the successful event drew to a close.
The dedication of all the members of the Students’ Association made the Ball a great success. The Executive Committee oversaw months of preparations, countless nights spent in the lead-up to the Ball, and the many attendant logistical stresses and challenges. We truly hope that all participants enjoyed this lovely night, and that the friendships and memories forged during the event remain long in our hearts.
