The Forgotten Sea Kingdom
By 4C Heiko Lee
During a thunderstorm, an ocean diver was exploring an ocean in his submarine. As he dove deeper, he uncovered a lot of astonishing information about the deep sea biosphere. He took photos using the technology he had implemented on the submarine and jotted down notes of many interesting facts for his research study.
After a while, the submarine suddenly stopped without warning and crash landed onto a strange land. He donned his diving suit and exited the submarine to be greeted with corals and stunning azure blue waters…and a sign that spelled out “kingdom”.
A bright blue light shone from a mysterious building lighting a path for the diver. As he walked along the path, he admired the architecture of this strange land and the marvelous landscape filled with clams, corals and sparkling lights emanating in the distance.
He halted, staring at a giant castle in front of him. Its smooth white marble loomed over him with an angelic glow. Statues of seahorses with blades stood beside the gate entrance, coral-shaped ornaments stood on the watchtowers and, above it all, a clam emblem with a shining pearl in the centre.
As he walked on, a chuckle echoed through the sea. The diver frantically searched his surroundings, and felt an uneasy feeling creeping up his spine. He could feel the waves moving around him, a shadow lurking behind his back. Slowly turning around, he saw a beautiful mermaid standing behind him. They both jumped back in shock and fear. However, the diver saw the mermaid’s fluffy, silky hair, gleaming eyes that shone like pearls, an elegant pink tail with perfectly-aligned scales, and a regal dress with many layers and details. Every inch of her screamed pure beauty!
Extinguishing that thought, they arrived at the palace of the mermaid kingdom. Standing in front of the gigantic gates with weird symbols carved into them, the mermaid proceeded to speak in a mystical language. As she spoke, the symbols glowed and the ground shook vigorously. Dust filled the water and the gates slowly opened.
The mermaid looked at him with horror, and pulled out a trident, pointing it at the diver’s neck, demanding that he explain his arrival. The diver told her about his exploration of the ocean and how his submarine had broken down when passing by. The mermaid pitied him and asked the diver to follow her to the palace. As he did so, his curiosity began to pique, wondering why she was the only creature that he had seen here up till now.
As the gates opened, bright lights lit the hall and colorful glass panes projected across the floor, each with their own special image. The diver recognised one of them as the mermaid herself, though the image seemed too rough to make out details. The mermaid led the diver through the halls, where he was stunned by the architecture. They soon arrived in a giant room. A huge chandelier, decorated with pearls and crystals, hung from the ceiling, giving a bright blue light to the room. A throne stood in front of them, with a much smaller throne beside it.
Above the throne was a huge crystal mura. It seemed to depict a girl reaching towards a light from a gloomy and dark sea. The mermaid beside the diver suddenly shivered, as if spooked out of her mind. The diver asked if she was alright but she then snapped out of it and grabbed his hand. Dragging him behind the throne, a mysterious door materialized in front of their eyes. As they opened it, only a floating object on a pedestal could be seen. When they approached it, the whole room suddenly shook and the floor began to crumble bit by bit. The diver panicked in fear and turned to ask the mermaid for help, but she was nowhere to be seen.
As he fell into the bottomless crack on the floor, that same chuckle could be heard. The diver fell further, looking up, desperately seeking the mermaid’s help. As he found her shadow, he saw the mermaid turning into the one in the mural, laughing at the diver as she waved goodbye.
