-A Eucharist of Praise and Thanksgiving
On 22 September 2023, our College held a service titled “A Eucharist of Praise and Thanksgiving” for F.1 students at St. Paul's Church in Glenealy, Central. The service brought together F.1 students to celebrate the long history of St. Paul’s College, incorporating a symbolic session of Holy Communion and blessings.
The service commenced with a prayer of forgiveness, “May God our Father forgive us our sins”, during which all attendees were invited to humbly acknowledge their shortcomings and seek reconciliation with God. This humbling experience fostered a sense of unity and reminded everyone of the transformative power of forgiveness.
Members of the Christian Union also offered heartfelt prayers of unity and reconciliation, emphasising the importance of compassion and understanding within a community. Each took turns to read scriptures highlighting the significance of faith and wisdom in our learning journey. Sacred hymns of gratitude and reverence resonated, creating a serene and spiritual atmosphere in the church.
The core of the service was the address delivered by Mr. Yuen, our principal. He spoke about the rich heritage of St. Paul's College, emphasising the contributions of alumni to society, and the responsibility that Form 1 pupils bear in carrying forward the prestigious reputation of St. Paul’s College. His words instilled a sense of pride and motivation among the students.
Another symbolic moment during the service was the session of Holy Communion and the crowd blessing. Baptized students came forward to receive the Holy Communion, symbolizing their commitment to their journey of spiritual growth. It was a solemn and sacred moment that reminded everyone of the importance of their relationship with God. The crowd blessing served as a reminder that everyone present was valued and embraced by God, regardless of their current stage of faith.
As the service concluded, the Form 1 students were filled with anticipation for their College journeys ahead. The Heritage Service had reminded them of the importance of their faith in God and of their role as ambassadors of the college, as well as the values, traditions, and commitment to education that have shaped the college over the years.
St. Paul's College Heritage Service was a time to reflect, to celebrate, and to look forward. Through prayers, songs, and the symbolic acts of Holy Communion and blessings, the service unified the newly-admitted pupils and reaffirmed their faith and commitment to their shared and longstanding heritage.
